Walking Jukebox Junior

My friends in Philly dubbed me the Walking Jukebox years ago because random words in conversation would trigger outbursts of song – especially songs from musicals!  I don’t know why I have such a memory for songs and lyrics but I do.  They have always stimulated and moved me!  Well, it looks like Lily is going to be the next Jukebox.  She started to sing very very early.  At a year and half she was singing most all of “Come Thou Fount”  But lately, things have gone to a whole new level and it is so fun . . .for me anyway!  Now it is no longer songs that I repeat over and over that she latches onto but maybe ones that she hears only once or twice.

A good example happened today.  This past weekend we went to a counseling conference.  On Sunday, there was a church service that was pretty different than her normal experience.  It had a nice Irish type band with a violin (which she always imagines herself playing via chopsticks anyway).  It was very peppy to say the least but the songs stuck with her.  Today, she was singing Holy, Holy, Holy while she was playing and then later I heard her singing the old, “There is power, power wonder working power in the bloooooooooodddd of the laaaaaaammmmb.”

Things aren’t always so spiritual though – even though she has yet to see a Disney movie (and probably won’t for a long long time) I know all the words to the songs and we have fun with them.  Lily and I have become such a team that we take different parts in the songs.  For instance, we sang the “Bonjour” Belle song and I sang the narrator part and she sang the Belle parts. . . and with such hilarious drama!  There are so many things about her that remind me of Brian that I love – her sensitivity and attention to details – but in the expressive areas. . . she is all mine!  Work it girl!

Below are some pictures from the weekend.  People from all over the country come to this conference.  One such person was Robin Price – an old Amarillo friend who had never even met Lily.  We had dinner with her and enjoyed catching up!

Happy Birthday Teber Dodo Pig!

img_74481When Trevor was little if you asked him his name he proudly proclaimed, “Trevor Joseph Prigg”.  The cute part was that it usually sounded like “Teber dodo Pig.”  Well, he has come a long way since then and in honor of his 22 years, here is. . .

5 Things You Might Not Know About Trevor

1.    He used to love to play Barbies with me.

2.    We are the only two in our family (in our generation) with long, skinny bodies – we both take after our Mom’s Dad.  Whenever we are together people say we “look alike” because of this but more often than that people think we are dating. . . or better yet when Trevor was moving into Belhaven, I was there with Lily and the RAs were FREAKED OUT because they thought he was Lily’s baby daddy.  There was an audible sigh of relief when they found out we were siblings.

3.  His greatest impersonation, as a kid, was the snake on Jungle Book. . . “Trusssssssst in me”

4.  He has a huge soft spot for people with disabilities and volunteered in a class that would have scared me to death.

5.  He is very literal.  One time when he was younger he was upset about something and our mom told him to just “blow it off” – He immediately blew air out his mouth.  He hasn’t changed too much in this area (though no more blowing).

We are really enjoying having him here in Philadelphia.  Since we are so far apart in age, there was a huge chunk of his life that I missed while away at college and then getting married and living in Philadelphia.  I feel like I get to reclaim my sibling after years of feeling like an only child.

Did I mention I really like 3 1/2?

Tonight’s trick or treating adventure just further confirmed how much I enjoy Lily at this age.  I am not one for babies – though I adored my own – but I love this stage where she takes initiative, speaks up and has ideas to contribute to the family.  I love the interaction!  Here are a few pictures from our day.

Halloween in Philly is so fun because all the neighbors sit outside on their front steps.  It is a great time to meet new people and hear about their lives. . . and that is just what we did tonight!
